Swanky is the main antagonist in Pet Alien.

Biography[]

"Tall, blue and beaked, Swanky demands the finest things in life. He believes he's a pure aristocrat, a blue-blood with real blue blood. Selfish & egotistical, "Cranky Swanky" is always scheming to avoid doing chores. The very mention of the word "work" sends a shiver down his multiple spines."

History[]

The Most Special Place[]

Swanky is seen at the end of the pilot, where he is standing in line with the other aliens to board the Go-Getter Express.

Pet Alien[]

One night while relaxing in his bedroom, Tommy Cadle discovers a spaceship crashing into his lighthouse roof with five aliens: Dinko, Gumpers, Swanky, Scruffy and Flip. Terrified, Tommy tries to run away and falls off the lighthouse, but is saved by Dinko. The two form a friendship and the aliens beg Tommy to let them live with him in the lighthouse. After much pleading, Tommy agrees as long as they promise not to let anyone else move in. Swanky redecorates the lighthouse with a flatscreen TV, speakers, a hover chair and a hover couch.

Swanky is the most refined and villainous of the aliens and finds himself suffering misfortune at the hands of the other aliens' antics. He wants to steal Tommy's bedroom and tries various plans to get him (and to an extent, the other aliens) out of the way. Whenever he's not plotting an evil scheme, he will casually observe Dinko and Gumpers' antics and insult them.

Despite being a prominent character in Season 1, the following season considerably downplays Swanky's presence, to the point where he is frequently absent altogether or will only appear for a single line before vanishing for the rest of the episode.

Personality[]

Swanky is an extremely selfish, lazy, callous, pompous, narcissistic bum who expects everyone to wait on him hand and foot, has no respect for anyone, and only cares about himself. He doesn’t seem to have an actual reason for being with the other aliens, other than the fact that he apparently went to high school with them. He wants Tommy’s room all to himself and frequently schemes to get him out of the way. Swanky always insults the other aliens, never does anything to help them out, and often exploits them for his own personal gain. Thankfully, these evil plans tend to backfire on him.

Appearance[]

Swanky is a tall, skinny, light blue insect-like alien. He has brown eyes, dark blue fur around his neck, four fingers with claws on each hand and three toes with claws on each foot, and two antennas on the top of his head with purple balls. Swanky also has two hammerspace pockets on his front that can hold anything at all.

In the original pilot and toy line, Swanky was an indigo color and the balls on his antennas were orange.

Relationships[]

Despite Tommy allowing Swanky to live in his lighthouse, Swanky holds no gratitude or respect towards him, frequently bosses Tommy around and tries to get rid of him in order to claim his bedroom for himself. Much like Dinko, Swanky never refers to Tommy by his real name, only ever referring to him as "The Earth Boy"; the one time he actually called Tommy by his real name ("The Slo-Mo Terror"), Tommy immediately realized something was wrong. Tommy in turn dislikes Swanky for being an obnoxious, self-centered jerk who constantly tries to exploit him, to the point where in "The Boy Who Became Something...", he actually threw Swanky out of the lighthouse altogether after he wouldn’t stop mocking Tommy (although he does come back in the next episode).

Swanky's relationship with Dinko and Gumpers is very toxic and controlling. Swanky never does anything to help them out, insults them frequently, bosses them around and tries to exploit them for his own personal gain, with Gumpers being his favorite target because of how stupid and gullible he is. In one episode, Gumpers reveals that he deliberately annoys Swanky for fun. Despite this, they missed each other when Swanky left the lighthouse in The Day of Judgement and The Creature Who Left. At the end of both episodes, they were happy when he moved back.

Swanky has an intense rivalry and mutual hatred with Flip, who constantly antagonizes him and attacks him in comedic ways. Swanky hates Flip for constantly pranking and attacking him, and Flip hates Swanky just as much for being a pompous jerk who abuses him and the other aliens. Sometimes, Swanky will even use Flip as a brush or a toothbrush to groom himself or a metal detector against his will. However, in "The Day of Judgement" and The Creature Who Left", when Swanky briefly leaves the lighthouse, Flip is shown to miss him just as much as the other aliens do, and once Swanky returns at the end of both episodes, they are shown to get on much better in subsequent episodes (albeit due to Flip appearing less).

Swanky is frequently abusive towards Scruffy and openly despises him, despite Scruffy being the only alien who doesn’t bother or annoy him. It was Swanky who caused Scruffy to run away from home by kicking him down the stairs, cruelly telling him that nobody loves or cares about him, and locking him out of the lighthouse to prevent him from coming back inside. When Tommy and the aliens find out what happened, Swanky shows no remorse for what he did and even laughs at them.

Trivia[]

  • According to "Shipping and Handling Not Included", Swanky's favorite color is indigo. This is a reference to the color scheme that he was in the original toy line.
  • Swanky's hammerspace pockets and his stretchy powers aren’t used in Season Two.
  • Swanky says "Nincompoops" whenever the other aliens are acting stupid.
  • His favorite foods are lobster, caviar, crabs, and escargot.
  • Swanky has died twice in the series:
    • At the end of The Day of Judgement, he is turned into ashes at the end when trying to fly the Go-Getter back into space after he causes it to self destruct.
    • In "The Guest Who Wouldn't Leave", Bob zaps him with a death ray after refusing to flee in terror, leaving only some of his feathers in tact.
