Gumpers

Gumpers is one of the four tritagonists in Pet Alien.

Biography[]

"Gumpers is scared of everything... shadows, veggies or multi-syllable words... like diet.

He doesn't realize how strong he is, and is liable to run you over or crash through a wall while fleeing in fear."

From the official Pet Alien Website

History[]

The Most Special Place[]

Gumpers can be seen at the very end, standing in line for the spaceship to Earth.

Pet Alien[]

One night while relaxing in his bedroom, Tommy Cadle discovers a spaceship crashing into his lighthouse roof with five aliens: Dinko, Gumpers, Swanky, Scruffy and Flip. Terrified, Tommy tries to run away and falls off the lighthouse, but is saved by Dinko. The two form a friendship and the aliens beg Tommy to let them live with him in the lighthouse. After much pleading, Tommy agrees, but as long as they promise to let anyone else move in. The series revolves around Tommy trying to stop the aliens from causing any trouble.

Gumpers is a big alien with a big appetite (and not just for food, e.g. eating shoes). He likes to burp and fart and also possesses a living tooth. He is very strong, but also very afraid. He appears to be extremely goofy most of the time, but he is capable of intelligent thoughts if he strains his brain hard enough and is given the proper motivation. He and Dinko frequently try to help Tommy out with his problems, but they always misunderstand things to the point of insanity and making things worse.

Appearance[]

Gumpers is an extremely large, bulky gorilla-like alien, comparable in height to an adult human. He has pink skin with dark pink spots, a light pink muzzle and belly, and blue hair on his head. He has four fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot. His mouth has a large, protruding tooth that is occasionally shown to be alive in episodes like "It Came from the Closet", "Darkness" and "The Alien Who Sold the World".

Personality[]

Gumpers is an extremely stupid and gluttonous slob who has super strength. Despite his brute strength, he is scared of everything in the whole world. However, he can be very insightful when he tries hard enough or is properly motivated. He even provides some of the show's more intelligent scenes. Gumpers is very loyal to both Tommy and Dinko, and will do anything to help them out.

Abilities[]

Gumpers is one of the strongest characters in the series, being capable of denting walls by running into them and even knocking over the Lighthouse on occasion.

Gumpers is shown to be extremely flatulent, and loves burping and farting. As shown in "Belch of Destruction", Gumpers' belches are strong enough to knock the lighthouse on its side. If Gumpers eats lots of cheese ("Assault of a Rodent"), the resulting fart is strong enough to cover the entire lighthouse.

Although he is normally dimwitted, if properly motivated with food ("He Walks and Talks Like an Alien"), Gumpers is smart enough to answer complex math equations and other subjects in seconds. By hitting himself in the head, he can solve problems even Dinko and Tommy cannot.

Relationships[]

Gumpers and Dinko are great friends. They both love to explore Earth culture and always try to help Tommy with his problems, even though their attempts make his problems worse. Apparently, they’ve known each much longer than the other aliens, as shown in some flashbacks. Sometimes, Gumpers will point out some of the flaws in Dinko's ideas, but he rarely listens to him and does what he wants instead.

Gumpers and Flip get along well and they seem to be very good friends, with Gumpers acting as some kind of older brother figure for Flip.

Tommy and Gumpers are shown to have a strong bond and view each other as good friends. When Gumpers came to believe Tommy didn't want him living in the lighthouse anymore ("Unleashed Beast of Fury"), Tommy quickly reassured him that he loved him just the way he was. However, Tommy isn't as close to Gumpers as he is to Dinko, and even refuses Gumpers' efforts to become his new best friend in "The Beast That's Stuck in My Foot" on the basis that Dinko is already his best friend and because he is more clingy towards him than Dinko.

Trivia[]

  • Gumpers appears in every episode except "The Lookalike Girl of Evil".
  • Gumpers' living tooth vanishes in Season Two.
  • If Gumpers doesn’t belch or fart for a certain period of time, he will inflate like a balloon due to the excessive gas buildup until he explodes. This seems to be common amongst his species.
  • Gumpers is the only alien who consistently uses Tommy’s name.
  • It is implied in The Creature Who Left, that Gumpers bothers and messes up Swanky on purpose, since he said he missed how Swanky would always yell at him for deliberately annoying him.
